Historic Jefferson
is a neighborhood that strives to strengthen itself as a neighborhood of
choice for a diverse mix of homeowners and renters. They are attempting to do
this by changing the perception of the neighborhood with simple

Neighborhood features:
The Historic Jeff neighborhood is within walking distance of two elementary
schools, antique shopping on Main
Street and cultural attractions, including the
Tippecanoe County Public Library, Wells
Community Cultural
Center and the Long Center
for Performing Arts.
Historic highlights:
The brick paved streets are reminiscent of the days when horses and buggies
transported citizens across town. A brick carriage house, dating to the mid
1800s, is located on 12th Street.
The neighborhood's namesake is the historic Jefferson High School
building, a brick, two-story structure that once served as the city's public high
school. Located on the corner of Ninth and Brown Street, this incredible building
was recently renovated and is now the Historic Jefferson Centre, home to
seventy-four senior apartments and the offices of Lafayette Neighborhood
Housing Services.
